Manual Handling Instructor Course

This course is designed to introduce suitably selected persons to basic instruction and technical knowledge required to train persons to use the correct method of lifting.

Course Details

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • The Manual Handling Regulations and EC directives
  • Qualities of an instructor
  • Record keeping and report writing
  • Intensive knowledge of manual handling techniques

Classroom instructional techniques including:

  • Preparation of material
  • Obtaining material
  • Presenting the subject
  • Correct use of visual aids
  • Questioning techniques
  • Confirming trainees' understanding of subject

Practical teaching techniques including:

  • Safety of trainees
  • Instructors' responsibility for safety
  • How to prepare lesson plans
  • The demonstration
  • Corrective tuition

Candidates are awarded a certificate of training which is recognised by the Factory Inspectorate as proof that formal training has been carried out.
